Sustainable School Project

As Stewards of Creation our vision is to engage students, staff and the community in our quest to develop a sustainable school environment that models and promotes:

  1. exemplary practices in decreasing consumption of energy, water, the generation of litter and dispersal of waste to landfill
  2. broadening understanding and awareness of the need to live sustainably whilst enriching the biodiversity of our surroundings

Some of the sustainable features of our school are our water tanks, synthetic turf soccer field, drought resistant grass of our oval, rubbertough playarea [rubbertough is a recycled rubber product], solar panels.

Building design incorporates low energy lighting, sunshades to northfacing windows, drip free taps, dual flush toilets, skylights.

Biodiversity of our school has been enhanced with drought tolerant shrubs and grasses, increased planting of native shrubs and trees, the development of vegetable gardens.

We aim to be a rubbish free school, with children taking litter home, using wormfarms for food scraps, recycling paper and cardboard.

We have a computerized monitoring system that we use to track our usage of water, energy, waste, paper.

Our cleaners use only chemical free products.

Goals  include:

  •  Encouraging double sided printing
  •  eportfolios of student work (rather than paper copies)
  •  Rubbish free school - children are asked to have a lunchbox so that they can take food wrappers home
  • the new gymnasium, classrooms and refurbishment of our Library incorporate sustainable features
  •  the development of this website as an electronic library of frequently asked questions and useful forms
